MOUNTAIN MEADOW, by CHRISTIE JEFFRIES First Line: Fan-shaped and undulant it lies between Last Line: Garners this sunlit meadow for its own. | |||
Fan-shaped and undulant it lies between Cowled mountains wimpled with enduring snow, A peacock lawn insouciant with green, Spreading frail brightness like a furbelow. Multitudinous stems hold bluets lustred With alchemy of frost; rose petals hide Their patterns in gay constellations clustered Beyond the ridge where snow and bloom divide. Here gather lines of sheep which parallel The slumbrous whiteness of the glacier edge. Below, the silver buoyance of a bell Echoes against the crenellated ledge; And here the spell of beauty, bright and lone, Garners this sunlit meadow for its own. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CONTRA MORTEM: THE WHEEL OF BEING I by HAYDEN CARRUTH MERELY STATEMENT by AMY LOWELL SURFACES AND MASKS; 4 by CLARENCE MAJOR SONNET: CUPID AND VENUS by MARK ALEXANDER BOYD THE MASK by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING HOW IT STRIKES A CONTEMPORARY by ROBERT BROWNING DITTY IN IMITATION OF THE SPANISH: ENTRE TANTO QUE L'AVRIL by EDWARD HERBERT |
