You danced with Love down ferny, spring-lit byways; You laughed with Love beside the fruited tree; You tramped with Love along the common highways; You dreamed with Love by fire's felicity. You led us out to open, sun-filled spaces, Where we caught back God's heaven with a song; You drew the veils from dusky, woodland spaces, And there we saw His beauty and grew strong. You wooed adventure where the waters bubbled Into the terraced basins on the hill; You lifted up our eyes when they were troubled, Till, marching with the stars, our hearts grew still. I knew my true love when he came a-Maying Because your tender faith laughed in his eyes; Dear God, may I, too, give Love's further staying Such joy as makes of life a high emprise! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE END OF LIFE by PHILIP JAMES BAILEY SEVEN TWILIGHTS: 6 by CONRAD AIKEN THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#19): 2.
