CONCLUSION, by LESLIE NELSON JENNINGS First Line: There is an ending, even to these things Last Line: More graciously before our hearts were broken? Subject(s): Judgment Day; End Of The World; Doomsday; Fall Of Man | ||||||||
There is an ending, even to these things That we have loved so fondly and so long Folding at sunset of outwearied wings In stillness immemorial as song. There is an ending that we go to meet, That makes no matter of these anxious years, Loud with impassioned protest, bitter-sweet With squandered pity and rejected tears. What gall and honey of what old regrets Shall be commingled when we come to pay, Reluctant in humility, our debts? Will there be kindness then, and time to say The valedictions that we might have spoken More graciously before our hearts were broken? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ON ETHNIC DEFINITIONS by ELEANOR WILNER THE MARRIAGE OF HEAVEN AND HELL by WILLIAM BLAKE THE END OF THE WORLD by GORDON BOTTOMLEY 1X1 (ONE TIMES ONE): 20 by EDWARD ESTLIN CUMMINGS ONCE BY THE PACIFIC by ROBERT FROST BEATEN TRACKS by LESLIE NELSON JENNINGS |
