ONE NIGHT, by JUAN RAMON JIMENEZ First Line: The ancient spiders with a flutter spread Last Line: With silver crowned me there remote and lone. Subject(s): Babies; Change; Infants | ||||||||
THE ancient spiders with a flutter spread Their misty marvels through the withered flowers; The windows by the moonlight pierced would shed Their trembling garlands pale across the bowers. The balconies looked over to the south; The night was one immortal and serene; From fields afar the newborn springtime's mouth Wafted a breath of sweetness o'er the scene. How silent!Grief had hushed its spectral moan Among the shadowy roses of the sward; Love was a fableshadows overthrown Trooped back in myriads from oblivion's ward. The garden's voice was allempires had died The azure stars, in languor having known The sorrows all the centuries provide, With silver crowned me there remote and lone. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A POET TO HIS BABY SON by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON BABYHOOD by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN INFANCY by EDMUND JOHN ARMSTRONG BALLAD OF THE LAYETTE by WAYNE KOESTENBAUM A TOAST FOR LITTLE IRON MIKE by PAUL MARIANI THE PAMPERING OF LEORA by THYLIAS MOSS ONE FOR ALL NEWBORNS by THYLIAS MOSS IN THE THRIVING SEASON by LISEL MUELLER SURFACES AND MASKS; 2 by CLARENCE MAJOR |
