IOWA GOTHIC, by ELSNER KASPER First Line: The broad and sunlit fields around Last Line: A poet with a better role. Subject(s): Iowa | ||||||||
The broad and sunlit fields around He looks upon with pride, For he has plowed the fertile ground; There seeds of plenty now abide. He sees the harvest in the fall, -- (O God, Thy blessings on the land!) And, rising with the rooster's call, He sets to work with heart and hand. He sees the seasons come and go And loves them all, a stalwart soul; Midst summer's sun and winter's snow, A poet with a better role. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE DREAM SONGS: 290 by JOHN BERRYMAN AFTER VERLAINE by ANSELM HOLLO VISITING MY OWN HOUSE IN IOWA CITY by GERALD STERN FOUR POSTULATES by MICHAEL ANANIA TO A PRIZE BIRD by MARIANNE MOORE |
