SUMMER MATANUSKA, by LYDIA MAY KELLOGG First Line: A subtle something in the air Last Line: Dear matanuska land! Subject(s): Alaska | ||||||||
A subtle something in the air, A strength, a power, a poise, 'Tis good to breath the sunlight fair Far from the city's noise. The hush of Nature, silence, calm, Betimes the gentle breeze, The voice and song of Gilead Balm, Most dignified of trees. The drowsy hum of busy bee, The whirring wing of bird, The woodpecker's tap upon a tree, The only sounds now heard. In heavens above the clouds so rare, So soft, and deep, and blue, Uplift my soul from every care, And make the whole world true. The mountain peaks as vast, cold heights, Unshaken, fearless stand; Rejoice, my eyes with changing lights, Dear Matanuska Land! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THIS DARK WATER by JOHN HAINES TO THE GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW IN ALASKA by JOHN BURROUGHS ALASKA'S NATIVE SON by HATTIE M.
