YOUTH, by LUCY KENT First Line: The suddenness of life was mine Last Line: Was like a shoulder in the breeze. Subject(s): Life; March (month); Rain; Windows; Youth | ||||||||
The suddenness of life was mine When first through my awakened eye I saw, and held my breath to see, The polished emerald of the sky. There never was a thing as fine I thought, as this upon my pane, The magnified magnificence Of one small drop of rain. And in the smoky hour of dawn Along the way where I would pass, The dew-drops were like jewels on The long-stretched fingers of the grass. The brown-lipped passion of the earth In March, spanned life's antithesis -- When every naked bending bough, Was like a shoulder in the breeze. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN THE CRUISE OF THE MONITOR [MARCH 9, 1862] by GEORGE M.
