JAPANESE WOMAN, by LORNA TALLENT KIDWELL First Line: Decorously she pushed his little hands aside Last Line: And brighter seemed her day. Subject(s): Japan; Nurses; Japanese | ||||||||
Decorously she pushed his little hands aside, This Japanese nurse. But one glimpsed a pride And knew the starved heart was pleased at his caress. Beneath that calm exterior, emotions surged and strong desires. Peace lay upon her brow, yet in her heart burned smouldering fires, Ancestral smothered fires that life had taught her to suppress. Decorously she pushed his arm from round her neck And gently bade him run and play, -- But in her eyes a warn light glowed, And brighter seemed her day. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CHOMEI AT TOYAMA by BASIL BUNTING SONG: SO OFTEN, SO LONG I HAVE THOUGHT by HAYDEN CARRUTH A MONTH IN SUMMER by CAROLYN KIZER TWO JAPANESE POEMS by WILLIAM MEREDITH KEEP DRIVING by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE WATERLILIES AND JAPANESE BRIDGE by ALICIA SUSKIN OSTRIKER A WALKAROUND, FOR NEKO; KAMAKURA 11/10/96 by JEROME ROTHENBERG AT TSUKIJI MARKET TOKYO: 1 by JEROME ROTHENBERG LATE LOVE by LORNA TALLENT KIDWELL |
