LAVENDER, by
First Line: She sat upon the porch
Last Line: "and little dirty hands."
Subject(s): Old Age; Women

She sat upon the porch
On a warm spring day,
Her little wrinkled hands
Lying on the soft, pale folds
Of her lavender gown
Below the snowdrift sculpture
Of her hair.
The lilac bushes framed her,
And an essence of sweet lavender
Rose around her head.
The visitors peeped
Above the picket fence.
"How dignified she looks."
"Yes, but her eyes remind me
Of jars of cookies
And little dirty hands."
