THE CHILD'S WISH GRANTED, by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP Poet's Biography First Line: Do you remember, my sweet, absent son Last Line: Has borne you voiceless to your dear blue sky. Variant Title(s): To My Son | |||
Do you remember, my sweet, absent son, How in the soft June days forever done You loved the heavens so warm and clear and high; And, when I lifted you, soft came your cry -- "Put me 'way up, -- 'way, 'way up in blue sky"? I laughed and said I could not, -- set you down, Your gray eyes wonder-filled beneath that crown Of bright hair gladdening me as you raced by. Another Father now, more strong than I, Has borne you voiceless to your dear blue sky. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MARTHY VIRGINIA'S HAND [SEPTEMBER 17, 1862] by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP BRIDE BROOK by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP FAIRHAVEN BAY by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP NIGHT IN NEW YORK by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP REMEMBRANCE by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP SOUTH-WIND by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP THE FLOWN SOUL by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP THE NAME OF WASHINGTON by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP THE VOICE OF THE VOID by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP |
