THE STORM KING TRAIL, by GRACE PATCHEN LEGGETT First Line: Looming dark against the sky Last Line: Leaving it fresh and gleaming. Subject(s): Storms | ||||||||
Looming dark against the sky, The great thunder cloud As he passed the mountain by Spread his garment wide, And hov'ring low to rest Over the Storm King's crest, Beckoned the little rain maidens To come to his breast. They, heaving a gentle sigh, Gathered their misty veils about them, And caught in the folds of his robe Floated far away with him. All save a few tardy ones Who, left behind, with tears streaming Have watered the countryside, Leaving it fresh and gleaming. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...STORM AT HOPTIME by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN THERE IS A SOLEMN WIND TONIGHT by KATHERINE MANSFIELD DEWEY AND DANCER by JOSEPHINE MILES MICHAEL IS AFRAID OF THE STORM by GWENDOLYN BROOKS BREACHING THE ROCK by MADELINE DEFREES THE CLOUDS ABOVE THE OCEAN by STEPHEN DOBYNS OF POLITICS, & ART by NORMAN DUBIE TREMENDOUS WIND AND RAIN by ANSELM HOLLO |
