MAYTIME, by DELLA ADAMS LEITNER First Line: The air is filled with fragrance; orchard trees Last Line: Of beauty's charm; this is the gift of may. Subject(s): May (month) | ||||||||
The air is filled with fragrance; orchard trees Like fair young maidens in their pastel gowns Whisper their secrets and the murmuring sounds Are caught by vagrant winds that love to tease, Repeating tales of romance as they seize And pass this confidence soon lost to bounds; The brooks join merrily; What joy surrounds The earth in glad awakening with these. Nature is kind in Maytime, then is borne To jaded hearts a newness and desire; Old dreams revive to make each glowing morn Alive with eagerness that does not tire; In glad response to feel the magic sway Of beauty's charm; this is the gift of May. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN THE MONTH OF MAY by ROBERT BLY VENICE: MAY DAY by KENNETH REXROTH EARLY MAY STANZAS by TOMAS TRANSTROMER HOME-THOUGHTS, FROM ABROAD by ROBERT BROWNING IN MAY by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR |
