ABSENT, by VIRGINIA HART LIDE First Line: Two sons I have away from home Last Line: Like dry earth drinking rain. Subject(s): Absence; Mothers & Sons; Separation; Isolation | ||||||||
Two sons I have away from home, One in the North, one South; Their absence sears my lonely heart Like grainfields seared in drouth. Their letters come, so dear, so sweet, Quite often, yet too few; They flood my heart with happiness Like parched grass drenched with dew. Vacation time, when they come home, My heart forgets its pain In drinking in each word they say Like dry earth drinking rain. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE EVENING OF THE MIND by DONALD JUSTICE CHRISTMAS AWAY FROM HOME by JANE KENYON THE PROBLEM by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES WHEN A WOMAN LOVES A MAN by DAVID LEHMAN THIS UNMENTIONABLE FEELING by DAVID LEHMAN PLAYING SOMEONE ELSE'S PIANO by KAREN SWENSON |
