"Dear God," she used to pray, "when I am grown, Make me as beautiful as sister, please, With curly hair that's dark and fine and long, And not a freckle for a boy to tease." The years could scarcely change the braids of red To chestnut curls or hide the freckles, quite, And mirrors did not answer with a dream Of loveliness until one magic night When someone said, "You are so beautiful.
