GEMS OF TODAY, by FLORENCE O. LUKER First Line: When the dew still sparkles Last Line: Are gems that to you are brought. Subject(s): Day | ||||||||
At dawn When the dew still sparkles On each tiny grass and flower, You eagerly rise with a thought for the day, A hope for this quiet hour. When countless lives are resting From labors Time must cease, You breathe a prayer for the waking wourld -- Its love, its joy, its peace. At noon When the sun above you Covers all with cloth of gold, Your faith bejeweled, gleaming, Like flowers of the morning unfold -- You stand before your Master, With a tuneful song to Him Who opens wide his portal, And you joyfully enter in. At dusk When the glory of sunset Enshrouds all the earth like a veil, And a mystic peace from heaven guides you on To the end of the trail -- Your heart beats high in thanks For joys you long have sought; Abiding hope, calm faith, and endless love Are gems that to you are brought. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EARLY RISER by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE THE LOVE POEMS OF MARICHIKO: 19 by KENNETH REXROTH THE THIN EDGE OF YOUR PRIDE: 13 by KENNETH REXROTH SPENDING THE DAY ON A SLEEPING PORCH by REBECCA WOLFF THE BEACON; A MUSICAL DRAMA by JOANNA BAILLIE DAYS OF THE MONTH by MOTHER GOOSE SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: LYMAN KING by EDGAR LEE MASTERS THE MEASURE OF THE YEAR by JAMES GALVIN THE CRUISE OF THE MONITOR [MARCH 9, 1862] by GEORGE M.
