DURATION, by DOUGLAS MACKINTOSH First Line: I look into the ages of the past Last Line: The gate through which I'll find eternity. Subject(s): Future; Past | ||||||||
I look into the ages of the past And there behold a lapse of time so vast That planets live and die like mortal man; -- And still I look to find where Time began. I look into the ages yet to be And there behold the end of Prophecy -- The sun shall shine no more on mortal men: -- And still I look to see where Time shall end. But when I place my hand above my heart And count each measured throb, I stop! I start! -- These throbs Time's atoms are, and one shall be The gate through which I'll find Eternity. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FERGUS FALLING by GALWAY KINNELL A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV LAST THINGS by WILLIAM MEREDITH CHRISTMAS TREE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR TIME'S DICTUM by DOUGLAS MACKINTOSH ON A CURATE'S COMPLAINT OF HARD DUTY by JONATHAN SWIFT ODES: BOOK 1: ODE 11.
