FAIRY FORESTS, by HEATHER MACTAVISH First Line: Fairy forests grow for me Last Line: Where fairy forests grow for me! Subject(s): Forests; Woods | ||||||||
Fairy forests grow for me -- Frosted ferns and flowers gay, Nodding brightest where I see All their beauty day by day... Tender greens of trailing smilax Banish time with sweet embrace, As the gentle nodding lilacs Signs of snow and storm erase. Bridal wreath in soft cascades, Drips and waves the springtime through Tulips tall in pastel shades, Softly bidding May adieu. Roses in a crystal vase, Perfume sweetening every breeze, Sturdy stocks with pale blue lace Beckon to the transient bees. Snappy, spicy pinks will flirt With carnations here by dozens -- They would not each other hurt, Saucy things! They know they're cousins. Lilies chaste stand side by side; Marble cup and tiny bell, Waiting for a charming bride, -- For her bouquet they will sell. Ragged 'mums are dignified Brazen too, in bronze or red, Waiting for their annual ride, -- Football season's just ahead! Dahlia heads, a gay red mop, Laugh at frosted vines with glee...
