TIME, by BERTHA OSLER MALCOLM First Line: As I glided down the valley of time Last Line: Can rob me of the joy and peace of the golden present, now. Subject(s): Time | ||||||||
As I glided down the valley of time, I felt a strange sweet sense of peace; I bid adieu to yesterday, Tomorrow I cannot see. Oh! Time as you glide so swiftly by, More precious art thou than gold, Swifter by far than the swiftest steed. Oh! Time what must thou be, that we cleave to thee so eagerly? Glide on, oh Time, in your flight. No sorrow in the bygone days, No hope in the future years Can rob me of the joy and peace of the golden present, Now. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ELEVEN EYES: FINAL SECTION by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: COME OCTOBER by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: HOME by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: TIME IS FILLED by LYN HEJINIAN SLOWLY: I FREQUENTLY SLOWLY WISH by LYN HEJINIAN ALL THE DIFFICULT HOURS AND MINUTES by JANE HIRSHFIELD A DAY IS VAST by JANE HIRSHFIELD FROM THIS HEIGHT by TONY HOAGLAND JABBERWOCKY by CHARLES LUTWIDGE DODGSON ON THE DEATH OF LITTLE MAHALA ASHCRAFT by JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY |
