MY WIFE, by E. A. MANESS First Line: My wife is still my sweetheart, dear Last Line: And name that path the love way route. Subject(s): Marriage; Weddings; Husbands; Wives | ||||||||
My wife is still my sweetheart, dear; Just as she was when side by side We voyag'd upon our wedding year Without a fear of any tide. The years have come and years have gone; And changes like the sweeping sea Of calm and storm have swept our home; But still our love is true and free. The boyhood love of passion strong, Which courted her with longing eyes And words of Eden bliss and song, Has grown to brighter, lovelier skies. Our lives are bound together now By self-denying years of toil; And I can see upon her brow A beauty time can never spoil. Hand in hand with you dear wife, I'm all content to finish out, The winding future path of life; And name that path the love way route. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A BLESSING FOR A WEDDING by JANE HIRSHFIELD A SUITE FOR MARRIAGE by DAVID IGNATOW ADVICE TO HER SON ON MARRIAGE by MARY BARBER THE RABBI'S SON-IN-LAW by SABINE BARING-GOULD KISSING AGAIN by DORIANNE LAUX A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV SONNET OF HIS LADY IN HEAVEN by JACOPO DA LENTINO TO AMARANTHA, THAT SHE WOULD DISHEVEL HER HAIR by RICHARD LOVELACE |
