Your firewhere is it now? It was a sun Full of fresh vigor and brave restlessness. Now is it sunk to shadow meaningless, Barren and cold because its hour is done? Your fantasywhere is it now? It won With its ironic laughter a caress To heal the sting of life's great dreariness. Must this now molder in oblivion? No; even this hour upon some mountain-side, Or fairy strand, with glimmering silver strewn Your youthful spirit wanders, passion-eyed, And rushing thoughts turn to the husht lagoon, With stars to dive for. Yet unsatisfied, You still are reaching up to snare the moon. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A FRIEND KILLED IN THE WAR by ANTHONY HECHT FOR JAMES MERRILL: AN ADIEU by ANTHONY HECHT TARANTULA: OR THE DANCE OF DEATH by ANTHONY HECHT CHAMPS D?ÇÖHONNEUR by ERNEST HEMINGWAY NOTE TO REALITY by TONY HOAGLAND THALATTA, THALATTA! by VIRGIL MARKHAM |
