Your fire—where is it now? It was a sun
Full of fresh vigor and brave restlessness.
Now is it sunk to shadow meaningless,
Barren and cold because its hour is done?

Your fantasy—where is it now? It won
With its ironic laughter a caress
To heal the sting of life's great dreariness.
Must this now molder in oblivion?

No; even this hour upon some mountain-side,
Or fairy strand, with glimmering silver strewn
Your youthful spirit wanders, passion-eyed,
And rushing thoughts turn to the husht lagoon,
With stars to dive for. Yet unsatisfied,
You still are reaching up to snare the moon.
