BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, by MURRAY L. MARSHALL First Line: It is because I love you I am sad Last Line: And I be poor -- were you not cause for living. Subject(s): Grief; Love - Nature Of; Sorrow; Sadness | ||||||||
It is because I love you I am sad And hold the hours of my lonely grief Apart from Time -- the one inconstant thief Whose foul conniving makes the happy mad. It is because I love you I am glad Beyond all measure when the sweet relief That is yourself comes back to me. Though brief Our trysts, ours are the sweetest ever had. Because I love you I return to give Such riches as Love's storehouse may possess, In every new and fond togetherness. So happy have I now become in giving That all my wealth would leak out through a sieve And I be poor -- were you not cause for living. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SONOMA FIRE by JANE HIRSHFIELD AS THE SPARKS FLY UPWARDS by JOHN HOLLANDER WHAT GREAT GRIEF HAS MADE THE EMPRESS MUTE by JUNE JORDAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 19 by JAMES JOYCE DIRGE AT THE END OF THE WOODS by LEONIE ADAMS EVERYONE KNOWS WHOM THE SAVED ENVY by JAMES GALVIN |
