WHAT MOTHER SAID, by MABEL STANDLEY MARSTON First Line: Close your eyes,' our mother said Last Line: We say to our children now. Subject(s): Mothers | ||||||||
"Close your eyes," our mother said, "Take a deep breath, my dear, See, the sliver's nearly out, And you haven't shed a tear." Close your eyes, trust, don't look, Breathe a deep breath, a prayer -- That was the source of mother's strength When things were hard to bear. Slivers -- or hearts all broken and sore -- It always helped somehow; So "close your eyes and take a deep breath," We say to our children now. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MY MOTHER'S HANDS by ANDREW HUDGINS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS IN THE 25TH YEAR OF MY MOTHER'S DEATH by JUDY JORDAN THE PAIDLIN' WEAN by ALEXANDER ANDERSON BLASTING FROM HEAVEN by PHILIP LEVINE PSYCHOGENESIS by MABEL STANDLEY MARSTON |
