THE IMMORTAL GODS, by FREDERIC ROWLAND MARVIN Poet's Biography First Line: The gods can't die, poor fellows Last Line: When we are gone to sleep. Subject(s): Future Life; Immortality; Retribution; Eternity; After Life | ||||||||
THE gods can't die, poor fellows, Endless lives are theirs; On clouds they loll forever, And hearken to our prayers. They shake the heavens with thunder, With lighting part the sky, And curse the fate that made them, And will not let them die. The earth is green and tender, The ocean cool and deep; 'Neath foamy waves and waves of grass We lay us down to sleep. The gods pursue with anger, From cloud to cloud they leap, But they can never find us When we are gone to sleep. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IKON: THE HARROWING OF HELL by DENISE LEVERTOV LEEK STREET by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR UNABLE TO FIND by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS 3 by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS: 1 by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS: 2 by HAYDEN CARRUTH WRITING IN THE AFTERLIFE by BILLY COLLINS A MODERN PREACHER by FREDERIC ROWLAND MARVIN |
