EPITAPH ON A BEAUTIFUL INFANT, by THOMAS MAURICE First Line: Bright to the sun expands the vernal rose Last Line: Put forth fair blossoms, charmed us, and expired. Subject(s): Death - Children; Epitaphs; Death - Babies | ||||||||
Bright to the sun expands the vernal rose, And sweet the lily of the valley blows; Sudden impetuous whirlwinds sweep the sky. They shed their fragrance, droop the head, and die. Thus this fair infant from life's storms retired, Put forth fair blossoms, charmed us, and expired. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE LOST CHILDREN by RANDALL JARRELL THE MOURNER by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN MELANCHOLY; AN ODE by WILLIAM BROOME SISTERS IN ARMS by AUDRE LORDE A BOTANICAL TROPE by WILLIAM MEREDITH FOR MOHAMMED ZEID OF GAZA, AGE 15 by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE EPISTLE TO THE RIGHT HON.
