THE GIFT OF INSIGHT, by NORA F. MCCORMICK First Line: Strange thoughts came to me as I watched Last Line: His superscription in the humblest face. Subject(s): Children; Childhood | ||||||||
Strange thoughts came to me as I watched a child Rub from a pence, the mould, by years defiled. He patient strove, till from the dingy red, Shone forth imperial Caesar's head -- I thought, had we like children, the insight fine To scent the primal with ne'er chart nor line, We had the further grasp of things unseen -- The power, in every form, however mean, God's hidden image to discern, and trace His superscription in the humblest face. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN CHILDREN SELECTING BOOKS IN A LIBRARY by RANDALL JARRELL COME TO THE STONE ... by RANDALL JARRELL THE LOST WORLD by RANDALL JARRELL A SICK CHILD by RANDALL JARRELL CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS ON THE DEATH OF FRIENDS IN CHILDHOOD by DONALD JUSTICE THE POET AT SEVEN by DONALD JUSTICE A BIRTHDAY SONG by SIDNEY LANIER THE TENTH MUSE: THE VANITY OF ALL WORLDLY THINGS by ANNE BRADSTREET |
