THE SNOB, by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK Poet's Biography First Line: She knew a lord. 'I met him once, my dear' Last Line: (he was a carpenter) -- but she knows god. Subject(s): Snobs And Snobbery | |||
She knew a Lord. "I met him once, my dear, In London" -- and her eyes shone at the thought; "And Baron So-and-So, a dashing peer." A young Lieutenant whose grandfather fought At Flodden Field had led her out to dance. She had a button that adorned a king, A ribbon from a Chevalier of France; Gossip to last you through an evening. Her name high fashion's charities has graced, Yet sick and beggared passed her unaware; No poor relation ever could have faced Her jeweled Lorgnon, with its brittle stare. Now she is dead she greets Christ with a nod, -- (He was a carpenter) -- But She Knows God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BELINDA by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK COMPANIONS by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK DREAMS by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK FLOWER OF QUINCE by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK HEPZIBAH OF THE CENT SHOP by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK LA PETITE FIANCEE by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK MINISTERING BEES by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK REMEMBERING by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK THE BASKET-MAKER by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK THE DEAD PAINTER by VIRGINIA TAYLOR MCCORMICK |
