CHILDREN'S ROOM, by RUTH E. MCCOY First Line: This grimy cherub, lacking wings Last Line: He gives allegiance to his dream. Subject(s): Children; Childhood | ||||||||
This grimy cherub, lacking wings, Leans to a printed page that sings Of knights and wars and older days, Of gallant times and gallant ways. Laughter and chaos mingle here To whisper glory in his ear; He mixes life and death awry, Sets earthly beings in the sky. In his mind, peace and marching feet Blend to a wonderment complete: His eyes, his heart, are keen to all The splendours which about him fall, While, ignorant of time or scheme, He gives allegiance to his dream. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN CHILDREN SELECTING BOOKS IN A LIBRARY by RANDALL JARRELL COME TO THE STONE ... by RANDALL JARRELL THE LOST WORLD by RANDALL JARRELL A SICK CHILD by RANDALL JARRELL CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS ON THE DEATH OF FRIENDS IN CHILDHOOD by DONALD JUSTICE THE POET AT SEVEN by DONALD JUSTICE |
