A MOTHER'S DAY PRAYER, by CLYDE MCGEE First Line: On mother's day this is our prayer Last Line: God bless all mothers everywhere. Subject(s): Mother's Day; Prayer | ||||||||
On Mother's Day this is our prayer, God bless all mothers everywhere; The mothers who their watches keep Where curly heads lie fast asleep; And those whose ageing years are blest With filial love and peace and rest; The mothers who have stood beside A Cross on which their first-born died; And those who eat the bitter food Of faithless child's ingratitude; Who lonely are, and cruelly left Of all their children sore bereft; Who share in Rachel's deep distress, Bowed low with grief and comfortless. If we those hearts have thoughtless riven, Through whose pain our breath was given, Forgive us Lord, forgive we pray, As we to them our tribute pay; In us may it be theirs to find A growing reverence of mind; And through us may there be fulfilled The prayers they have so deeply willed; Keep strong in us the high intent, And make our love a sacrament; On Mother's Day this is our prayer, God bless all Mothers everywhere. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN LISTEN, LORD: A PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON A PRAYER FOR THE FUTURE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) DIFFERENT WAYS TO PRAY by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAYER DURING A TIME MY SON IS HAVING SEIZURES by SHARON OLDS WE WHO PRAYED AND WEPT by WENDELL BERRY PRAYERS AND SAYINGS OF THE MAD FARMER by WENDELL BERRY |
