THE ROAD, by GEORGE ROBERT MCKEITH First Line: What if I cannot see the road Last Line: And reach the final goal! Subject(s): Experience; Travel; Journeys; Trips | ||||||||
What if I cannot see the road God calls me to pursue? Nor know the rugged thorny way That I must journey through? One thing I know -- His call is right -- I'll go with strength anew! What if the road of duty prove To be a path of pain? And dangers lurk on every side To rack both heart and brain? One thing I'll do -- I'll follow on -- 'Twill prove my lasting gain. What if the road that I must go Is canopied with blue? And life is, as it were, sweet flowers Bedecked with morning dew? One thing I'll ask of Him who calls: "Lord, keep me always true!" For neither road nor traveller Is out of Thy control, And each, and all experiences May purify the soul; So, Father, give me strength to go, And reach the final goal! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RICHARD, WHAT'S THAT NOISE? by RICHARD HOWARD LOOKING FOR THE GULF MOTEL by RICHARD BLANCO RIVERS INTO SEAS by LYNDA HULL DESTINATIONS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE ONE WHO WAS DIFFERENT by RANDALL JARRELL THE CONFESSION OF ST.
