SPRING, by ARTHUR TRUMAN MERRILL First Line: Madness, madness of bird-note Last Line: Spring, spring, spring is en rampage again! Subject(s): Spring | ||||||||
Madness, madness of bird-note, Running, running, running up the scale Quite beyond the ear's timbre. Madness, madness of dust-mote, Rising on a Jacob's ladder (Green and blue and yellow of daffodils Is this mote-ladder; Playthings of the sun These rung-climbers!) Madness, madness of flower blooms Hepaticas, hepaticas, hepaticas! Madness, madness of Nature's looms Where she is weaving, is weaving, Dead-white anemones With eyes so timid, so bewildered They are only white's deviation, Or a sky's winter blue Reflected in snow-water; Where she is leafing, is leafing, Sugar maples and willows (Willows potential with exuberant whistles To be blown by small exultant boys) Nature is champing, is champing, Straining at bridle and bit and rein, Infinite hosts are tramping, are tramping, Spring, Spring, Spring is en rampage again! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SPRING LEMONADE by TONY HOAGLAND A SPRING SONG by LYMAN WHITNEY ALLEN SPRING'S RETURN by GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD SPRING FLOODS by MAURICE BARING SPRING IN WINTER by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES SPRING ON THE PRAIRIE by HERBERT BATES THE FARMER'S BOY: SPRING by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD EUREKA by ARTHUR TRUMAN MERRILL |
