RED HILLS AND SKY, by JANE MILLER Poet's Biography First Line: My grandmother is dirt and I am desert Last Line: Tell me who has not been quieted by this. Subject(s): Ancestry & Ancestors; Deserts; Drugs & Drug Abuse; Food & Eating | ||||||||
My grandmother is dirt and I am desert. Dusk. The datura unnerves me. I ride out to violate the baked earth. Hear the gray sage, how its hairs bristle in wind. I know distance is a woman I must cover at night, smoothing her clay shawl. I ride with my angry kiss in my mouth until I am forced to stop: red hollyhock against bright blue larkspur, tell me who has not been quieted by this. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAITRESSING IN THE ROOM WITH A THOUSAND MOONS by MATTHEA HARVEY CANDIED YAMS' by TERRANCE HAYES DINNER OF HERBS by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN THE BANQUET SONG by KENNETH KOCH SPLITTING AN ORDER by TED KOOSER A WINTER OF LOVE LETTERS AND A MORNING PRAYER: 5 by JANE MILLER A WINTER OF LOVE LETTERS AND A MORNING PRAYER: 7 by JANE MILLER |
