SEA SONG, by HENRY MILSTEAD First Line: The sea is a blue-backed stallion Last Line: My cares with a coral comb. Subject(s): Sea; Ocean | ||||||||
The sea is a blue-backed stallion With white foam at his mouth, And hitched to a rolling galleon He gallops away to the South; His flanks are the heaving breakers, His mane is the stinging spray, He ranges the vast sea acres Billowing far away. His hollow hoofbeats thunder Over hidden rock and reef; He tramples stout ships under While the shore lies stark with grief; But the roar of the raging billow, The chant of the swinging sea, Brings balm to the seaman's pillow, And peace to the soul of me. Where square-rigged schooners wander, Where storm-lashed frigates ride, And ancient junks that squander Bright days on a glassy tide, There my vagrant fancy travels Far out where the sea gulls roam, And the deep green tide unravels My cares with a coral comb. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HALL OF OCEAN LIFE by JOHN HOLLANDER JULY FOURTH BY THE OCEAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS BOATS IN A FOG by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE FIGUREHEAD by LEONIE ADAMS MOUNTAIN MEN by HENRY MILSTEAD |
