LITTLE OLD TOWN, by
First Line: A little old town with an old-world air
Last Line: Because of its quaintness, -- but I thought it dear!
Subject(s): Towns

A little old town with an old-world air,
And an old-world quaintness that some call queer.

With time-mellowed houses, and age-gnarled oaks,
And the heart-warming friendliness of small-town folks.

An old-fashioned town with an old-world grace,
Like a little old lady in lavendar and lace.

And moss-covered ruins like out-grown shells,
Where long lost memories and dead dreams dwell.

In the night-time quiet you can almost hear
The souls of past centuries hovering near.

Just a little old town that some call queer,
Because of its quaintness, -- but I thought it dear!
