LITTLE OLD TOWN, by ETHEL C. MITCHELL First Line: A little old town with an old-world air Last Line: Because of its quaintness, -- but I thought it dear! Subject(s): Towns | ||||||||
A little old town with an old-world air, And an old-world quaintness that some call queer. With time-mellowed houses, and age-gnarled oaks, And the heart-warming friendliness of small-town folks. An old-fashioned town with an old-world grace, Like a little old lady in lavendar and lace. And moss-covered ruins like out-grown shells, Where long lost memories and dead dreams dwell. In the night-time quiet you can almost hear The souls of past centuries hovering near. Just a little old town that some call queer, Because of its quaintness, -- but I thought it dear! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HAIL TEESSIDE! by CECIL DAY LEWIS THE IMPORTANCE OF GREEN by JAMES GALVIN A TOWN DEDICATED TO THE PURSUIT OF FITNESS & INNER PEACE by ANSELM HOLLO AN EXPLANATION by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON WHAT COULD HAPPEN by DORIANNE LAUX TRAVELOGUE: WHEN WE CONSIDER THE DARK LIGHT by ELENI SIKELIANOS CITY VIGNETTE: RAIN AT NIGHT by SARA TEASDALE |
