A che condizione occhi miei Siete! Che chiusi il bene, aperti il mal vedete! ARIOSTO Sleep expand thy downy wing, Lull my heart's corroding pain; Soft descend, and with thee bring, Thy smiling visionary train. In thy bosom's halcyon calm, Stormy grief forgets to flow; Gently drops thy lenient balm, Sweet as Lethe's draught to woe. Slumber sooths frail Nature's toils, Chases Sorrowchases Care; Conscience of her thorn beguiles, Smooths the brow of fierce despair. Joys that waking Sense denies, Flattering Sleep unfolds to view. Ah, me! in dreams each barrier flies, That parts my Soul from loveand you. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SONOMA FIRE by JANE HIRSHFIELD AS THE SPARKS FLY UPWARDS by JOHN HOLLANDER WHAT GREAT GRIEF HAS MADE THE EMPRESS MUTE by JUNE JORDAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 19 by JAMES JOYCE DIRGE AT THE END OF THE WOODS by LEONIE ADAMS DR.
