Mr. Noah he build him an ark, A hundred feet both long an' wide, An' den he open up de doah An' bid de animals come inside; An' in dey walk, come two by two, De fat ones and de thin, But Mizz Noah jus' sigh, and say: "Wipe yo' feets as yo' come in!" Mr. Noah he set him down Well inside, away from rain, An' den he make a long, long prayer, An' den he pray again; But Mizz Noah she sweep up hair An' get de animals fed, While Noah say he'd a long, hard day An' he gwine right to bed. Mr. Noah he made his task To count de day and night, Ontil he count up forty time, Den set de dove to flight; An' he say: "I expeck from this To be in histories ..." But Mizz Noah say "Don' bother me, Dese animals got fleas." So Mizz Noah comb and comb and comb An' give 'em bath and bath, While Mr. Noah he make a speech When de dove points out de path; He tells de animals farewell Like one ob Royal Blood, But Mizz Noah wring out her mop An' start clean up de mud! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ROMANTIC MOMENTS by TONY HOAGLAND INSECT LIFE OF FLORIDA by LYNDA HULL THE ANIMALS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE PRESENCES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE HORSES by KATHARINE LEE BATES BESTIARY by EARL (EARLE) BIRNEY THE FARMER'S BOY: WINTER by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD |
