WHEN TIME HAS TAKEN WINGS, by BERT MOREHOUSE First Line: I do not envy any man his wealth Last Line: In love his friends when time has taken wings. Subject(s): Time | ||||||||
I do not envy any man his wealth In stocks or bonds or lands or bank account. May he enjoy it all with robust health And have that happiness in full amount, As long as I may have my wealth in friends, And feel the touch of all their lives on mine That daily in some kindly way refine The plans of heart and mind to nobler ends. O could the truth be known to all mankind, Who gamble precious lives for clink of gold And live content among these passing things, That glinting metal has the power to grind The grasping hand to dust. But he may hold In love his friends when time has taken wings. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ELEVEN EYES: FINAL SECTION by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: COME OCTOBER by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: HOME by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: TIME IS FILLED by LYN HEJINIAN SLOWLY: I FREQUENTLY SLOWLY WISH by LYN HEJINIAN ALL THE DIFFICULT HOURS AND MINUTES by JANE HIRSHFIELD A DAY IS VAST by JANE HIRSHFIELD |
