WHEN TIME HAS TAKEN WINGS, by
First Line: I do not envy any man his wealth
Last Line: In love his friends when time has taken wings.
Subject(s): Time

I do not envy any man his wealth
In stocks or bonds or lands or bank account.
May he enjoy it all with robust health
And have that happiness in full amount,
As long as I may have my wealth in friends,
And feel the touch of all their lives on mine
That daily in some kindly way refine
The plans of heart and mind to nobler ends.

O could the truth be known to all mankind,
Who gamble precious lives for clink of gold
And live content among these passing things,
That glinting metal has the power to grind
The grasping hand to dust. But he may hold
In love his friends when time has taken wings.
