OVERTONE, by
First Line: Life has its varied things
Last Line: Were I more arrogant!

Life has its varied things
for my own pleasure lent:
the little bird that sings
as to a sacrament.

The cricket with its song,
so different is its note;
the temple with its gong,
the scores Beethoven wrote.

The wind among the trees,
a-sighing, sibilant;
earth's orchestra to please.
Were I more arrogant!
