RETROSPECT, by MARY MOSES MUNDT First Line: I feel the blood ooze from my heart Last Line: But now it tugs no more. Alternate Author Name(s): Mundt, Mrs. Karl E. Subject(s): Retrospection | |||
I feel the blood ooze from my heart, Drop by drop it spatters On the dead face of yesterday; Each drop bears with it bits Of cherished things: a poppy petaled dream Of girlhood, the echo of a voice Once kind, the memory of the times you've pinched My cheek, and run your fingers through my hair. I scarce can breathe I try so hard To dam the flow. I cannot lose this last poor shred My longing to lie quiet in your arms. When that has vanished down the cataract of drops I'll be a useless thing. Drip! Drip! Drip! I once felt Life tug at my heart, But now it tugs no more. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PLAINT OF A YOUNG LAWYER by HARRY RANDOLPH BLYTHE THE SPIRIT IS TRUE by HARRY RANDOLPH BLYTHE CITIES OF GOLD by MICHAEL BOWDEN FLASHBACK, 1973 by PAMELA GEMIN MY SWEET HOME IS NO LONGER MINE by EDWARD LEAR PORTRAIT OF MY MOTHER by ELIAS MIGUEL MUNOZ WHITE STEPS by MARY MOSES MUNDT |
