GLITTERING GATE, by BENJAMIN FRANCIS MUSSER First Line: The world recedes and dims, and we two stand Last Line: But ease of that pulse brings two death's avatar. | |||
The world recedes and dims, and we two stand Alone on ridge of abysm. We have come Steadily, quietly, not with an oriflamme, Not with trumpet and banner: these we shunned. Singly we climbed the height, uncaravaned, And drew no saber, beat no resonant drum; Scorning all pretense and its tinsel sham, Measured the pendulum of years' refund. Measured, and in those equidistant years Came to the ridge of abysm, and here met; Here in the meeting of all otherwheres, Strangers, now brother and brother, do we meet. Beat of the pulse of the world may drive us far, But ease of that pulse brings two death's avatar. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OF A CERTAIN POET by BENJAMIN FRANCIS MUSSER PAN IN WINTER by BENJAMIN FRANCIS MUSSER PARADOX by BENJAMIN FRANCIS MUSSER THE BRIDGE by BENJAMIN FRANCIS MUSSER THE ROADS OF MEN by BENJAMIN FRANCIS MUSSER WRECKAGE by BENJAMIN FRANCIS MUSSER SUMMER WIND by WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT VERSES SUPPOSED TO BE WRITTEN BY ALEXANDER SELKIRK by WILLIAM COWPER A LAST PRAYER by HELEN MARIA HUNT FISKE JACKSON ABRAHAM LINCOLN WALKS AT MIDNIGHT by NICHOLAS VACHEL LINDSAY A SONNET WRITTEN BY A NYMPH IN HER OWN BLOOD by CLAUDIO ACHILLINI |
