THE MOTHER, by COSETTE FAUST NEWTON First Line: She loved children that grow straight and tall! Last Line: "hear her croon: ""grow straight and tall for me!" Subject(s): Mothers | ||||||||
She loved children that grow straight and tall! Three of her own grew tall, by her side -- Richard, Sammie, and Geraldine -- And tall, with them, grew her motherly pride. She loved children that grow straight and tall! Her three had eyes of the clear blue sky, Souls steady, bodies slim as hillside pines: And her cup of happiness she lifted high. She loved children that grow straight and tall! Alas, one day she had children no more -- Just two men and a girl knocking hard at life's door. And she held not her cup so high as before. She loved children that grow straight and tall! Bare is her nest of its fledglings three, Till one brings his child to place on her knee.
