TO THE WOMEN OF EUROPE, by MURIEL NEWTON First Line: Sometimes, between the fighting and the crying Last Line: "seek,"" said the master, ""seek, and ye shall find." Subject(s): Europe; Women | ||||||||
Sometimes, between the fighting and the crying, Between the long wars and the short-lived peace, We hear, beyond ourselves, a sweet, clear music And then the battles and the weeping cease. For, misted by our thought, dimmed by our seeing, But known complete, whole, beautiful and true, Its walls and spires a fountaining of music, Our native city beacons on the view. Real, for we build it; lovely with our longing; Shining, no dream, down vistas of the mind: Our hands are lit, and vision-lit our pathway, "Seek," said the Master, "Seek, and ye shall find." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ARISTOTLE TO PHYLLIS by JOHN HOLLANDER A WOMAN'S DELUSION by SUSAN HOWE JULIA TUTWILER STATE PRISON FOR WOMEN by ANDREW HUDGINS THE WOMEN ON CYTHAERON by ROBINSON JEFFERS TOMORROW by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD LADIES FOR DINNER, SAIPAN by KENNETH KOCH GOODBYE TO TOLERANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV |
