Subject(s): Dreams; Memory; Sailing & Sailors; Sea Gulls; Youth; Nightmares

It's only on nights like this
my soul goes wandering,
Gypsying along with the wind,
far—far off to the sea;
Where I feel once more the cold
damp wind's wild beating,
And hear in its roar a beckoning
call to me.

Again I seem but a careless
waif by the ocean,
Carefree and happy and wild
as the wind on the sea;
Reckless as sea gulls dashing,
darting, and screaming
Among the marshes, filled with
an ecstatic glee.

It's only on nights like this
my soul goes wandering,
Sailing along with the wind
wild and reckless and free;
Drunk with the night, the wild,
wild wind from the ocean,
Living again in dreams a
childhood memory.
