THE WILD WIND, by SARA NICHOLS First Line: It's only on nights like this Last Line: Childhood memory. Subject(s): Dreams; Memory; Sailing & Sailors; Sea Gulls; Youth; Nightmares | ||||||||
It's only on nights like this my soul goes wandering, Gypsying along with the wind, farfar off to the sea; Where I feel once more the cold damp wind's wild beating, And hear in its roar a beckoning call to me. Again I seem but a careless waif by the ocean, Carefree and happy and wild as the wind on the sea; Reckless as sea gulls dashing, darting, and screaming Among the marshes, filled with an ecstatic glee. It's only on nights like this my soul goes wandering, Sailing along with the wind wild and reckless and free; Drunk with the night, the wild, wild wind from the ocean, Living again in dreams a childhood memory. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS |
