NOW SOFTLY, SILENCE, by WADE WRIGHT OLIVER First Line: Now softly, silence, bend above her, dead Last Line: Who henceforth sings in butterfly and rose. Subject(s): Silence | ||||||||
Now softly, Silence, bend above her, dead, Who, living, spoke with silence utterly; Her voice an eyelid's droop, an upturned head, A hand's white flutter vocal incredibly. And all her songs so silent; one a tune Sung by two glances from low-lidded eyes, One an arpeggio thrilling to the moon That was her wee face lifted in surprise. Softlier, Silence, and more softly bend Above her, dead, who was too young for speech, Or even babbling cries that merge and blend In little words that flutter out of reach; Yet softlier, Earth, around her frail form close Who henceforth sings in butterfly and rose. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A SONG OF SILENCE by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON TANKA DIARY (9) by HARRYETTE MULLEN 7 A.M., A MAN AND A WOMAN by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR SONS OF ADAM by WADE WRIGHT OLIVER STRATFORD SKETCHES by WADE WRIGHT OLIVER THE MOURNING GARMENT: THE DESCRIPTION OF THE SHEPHERD AND HIS WIFE by ROBERT GREENE |
