TO POLAND, by IRENA POPLAWSKA-LEINEWEBER First Line: The heart-shaped land that lies beyond the sea Last Line: The voice I loved was stilled long, long ago. Subject(s): Poland | ||||||||
The heart-shaped land that lies beyond the sea -- A fairy dream of distant childhood days -- Your radiant vision ever with me stays And gleams like jewels in my memory. The verdant shores rise clear before my eyes, The waving rye with touches of deep blue And scarlet poppies that are flaming through The gold beneath such strange and brooding skies. On mossy rocks I rest while the hours roll, Listening to the drowsy river's song And to the voice that always came along And stirred my being with its tender call. Ah! But I wake -- and in my heart I know The voice I loved was stilled long, long ago. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DOWNFALL OF POLAND [FALL OF WARSAW, 1794] by THOMAS CAMPBELL POLAND OF DEATH: 1 by ALLEN GROSSMAN THE DIVISION OF POLAND by EDWIN ARNOLD POLAND by WILLIAM EDMONSTOUNE AYTOUN THE BATTLE-FIELD OF RASZYN by KAZIMIERZ BRODZINSKI LINES ON POLAND by THOMAS CAMPBELL TO IGNACE PADEREWSKI by THOMAS AUGUSTINE DALY THE HERETIC: 2.
