MATURITY, by HARRIET SEYMOUR POPOWSKI First Line: Seeing the fury of the rushing rain Last Line: Pools whose quiet flow sustains an ocean. Subject(s): Maturity; Nature; Youth | ||||||||
Seeing the fury of the rushing rain Pound the clear bosom of that mountain stream Into a turbulence of blackened pain, He wept the hour that lost him youth's bright laughter, Fearing the troubled darkness to come after. Yet after brooding days he saw again, Moving on steadily, the joyous stream Cleared of its temporary muddy stain; And saw between the riffles in gay motion, Pools whose quiet flow sustains an ocean. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN CLEONE by HARRIET SEYMOUR POPOWSKI |
