WITH DRUNKEN GODS, by HARRY NOYES PRATT Poet's Biography First Line: I've wandered so these later years, until Last Line: And drink with drunken gods to memories. | |||
I've wandered so these later years, until Earth's far ways, over-weary, spurn my tread. In strange, forsaken ways my path has led -- By sun-drenched beach; or moon-bewildered hill Where maundering gods lie languorous and still; Forgotten deities -- old gods who fled As I before the marching world. The dead Wait grimly patient while the shadows fill. I've wandered so. And now I may not find The path which leads again to yesterday, Nor yet the forward way. The heedless seas Refuse me. Stranded, I am left behind. I blindly grope for a forgotten way, And drink with drunken gods to memories. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FOR MY FIREPLACE by HARRY NOYES PRATT HUSHABYE SEA by HARRY NOYES PRATT LULLABY-O, BY-O, BABE by HARRY NOYES PRATT ON THE RED MOON by HARRY NOYES PRATT POPLAR TREES ARE HAPPIEST by HARRY NOYES PRATT BENEDICTION by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON THREE GATES [OF GOLD] by ELIZABETH DAYTON SONNET: TO FANNY by JOHN KEATS SESTINA OF THE TRAMP ROYAL by RUDYARD KIPLING THE BENCH OF BOORS by HERMAN MELVILLE |
