SPRING ON THE DESERT, by FRANCES HUNT PRAY First Line: The gleaming blue of heaven deserts the sky Last Line: Its hidden soul in flowering radiance. Subject(s): Deserts; Food & Eating; Spring | ||||||||
The gleaming blue of Heaven deserts the sky To tumble flower-waved across the plain -- A trembling inland sea, that strives to gain The distant mountain slopes, that dreaming lie In serried circles, undisturbed and high. Pale-hued they are where recent snows have lain, Yet faint tints show -- as though through frosted pane A candle gleamed -- that poppy blooms are nigh. Throughout long months, the Sun with fiery lance, Across the miles in silent anger steals, But once a year, when lisping rains of spring, With gentle whispers soothe earth's suffering, The seared and aching desert waste reveals Its hidden soul in flowering radiance. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SPRING LEMONADE by TONY HOAGLAND A SPRING SONG by LYMAN WHITNEY ALLEN SPRING'S RETURN by GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD SPRING FLOODS by MAURICE BARING SPRING IN WINTER by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES SPRING ON THE PRAIRIE by HERBERT BATES THE FARMER'S BOY: SPRING by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD THE PROSPECT by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING |
