LIGHTED FIRE, by MERLE PRICE First Line: A lighted fire upon the hearth at evening Last Line: A lighted fire will warm the heart as well. Subject(s): Fire | ||||||||
A lighted fire upon the hearth at evening Can make a room a warm and cozy place Where hearts may lay aside familiar grieving And in the flames behold a well loved face. For lighted fires are made to reawaken The dreams that lie deep in the lonely breast ... The wistful heart recalling roads not taken ... The happy heart inducing peace and rest. So lay the fire and light the pitchy splinter; Start the flame and bring the rhythmic spell That captures memory, drives away the winter. A lighted fire will warm the heart as well. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WRITTEN TO A YOUNG LADY by MAURICE BARING OUR DRIFTWOOD FIRE by KATHARINE LEE BATES THE NIGHT FIRE by CLAUDE MCKAY WATER, WINTER, FIRE by MARVIN BELL THE LITTLE FIRE IN THE WOODS by HAYDEN CARRUTH SAMSON PREDICTS FROM GAZA THE PHILADELPHIA FIRE by LUCILLE CLIFTON ALADDIN LAMP by MADELINE DEFREES |
