FIRE, by KATHLEEN JESSIE RAINE Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: All begins in fire and ends in fire Last Line: Consumes the zeal of burning for the last day. Subject(s): Desire; Fire; Soul | ||||||||
All begins in fire and ends in fire. The fountains and cool spring return to flame And at the sun's approaching wheel, the dew Ascends the rainbow circle into the sole white. All that begins in darkness kindles Into the burning of desire And from desire into sight, Seer and seen consuming in one light When rocks melt in the sun, and mountains pour Into those flames that to the bound are hell But to the freed elements, pure delight. Our forms are fearful of the fires that burn away Self and identity, but in the dark of the heart The candle of the soul still for the bridegroom burns, And in the hidden electron of the water Consumes the zeal of burning for the last day. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CRUEL FALCON by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE WHOLE SOUL by PHILIP LEVINE I KNOW MY SOUL by CLAUDE MCKAY HONORING THE SAND; IN MEMORY OF JOSEPH CAMPBELL by ROBERT BLY THE CHINESE PEAKS; FOR DONALD HALL by ROBERT BLY THE LIFE OF TOWNS: TOWN OF THE EXHUMATION by ANNE CARSON A MESSAGE TO MICHAEL by KATHLEEN JESSIE RAINE |
