DISARMED, by JEAN RASEY First Line: Though time cut back so sharply Last Line: With which time harassed me. Subject(s): Time | ||||||||
Though time cut back so sharply Upon Life's open field I did not learn to parry With laughter as my shield. I held my shield before me Until the first red stain Brought the realization Of sudden bitter pain. So mockingly Time used me, So prodigal of zeal, It seemed that he would never Sheathe his pointed steel. But now his thrusts are harmless -- Mine the victory! My shield has snapped the rapier With which Time harassed me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ELEVEN EYES: FINAL SECTION by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: COME OCTOBER by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: HOME by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: TIME IS FILLED by LYN HEJINIAN SLOWLY: I FREQUENTLY SLOWLY WISH by LYN HEJINIAN ALL THE DIFFICULT HOURS AND MINUTES by JANE HIRSHFIELD A DAY IS VAST by JANE HIRSHFIELD |
